(1) My lumbar pack is a Mountainsmith Day Recycled-Fabric Lumbar Pack (my review here). I use this bag all the time and it has become my “man bag” or “murse”. (2) I have a large Kwiki Organizer to keep things easy to access on the inside. (3) I keep a shemagh tactical scarf in the bottom of the bag – it comes in handy as a giant bandanna, a kind of table-groundcloth and as a head scarf in the heat or a neck scarf in the cold. (4) my Maxpedition E.D.C. Pocket Organizer holds a variety of writing and drawing instruments: Sharpies, Pilot Razor Point Pens, graphite sticks, erasers, a pencil sharpener, etc. (5) Black Diamond Storm headlamp, (6) Carson Clip-on Magnifier for close work, (7) Storm Whistle, (8) gum and band aids, (9) Moleskine Plain pocket notebook for sketching, drawing and thinking, (10) 3×5 index card holder for quick notes and memos, (11) Tasco 10×25 Monocular and case, (12) Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS5 camera – updated by now (mine is a couple of years old) – small camera pouch with spare battery and charger (13) Microfiber cloth and spray bottle of rubbing alcohol for keeping optics clean, (14) Nalgene bottle and an LED flashlight, (15) Clip on sunshades and eyeglass retainers, (16) 12′ carpenter’s measuring tape. Not in photo – Leatherman multi-tool, Swiss army knife (yes I carry both most times)
I’d expect you are curious as to whether or not anyone gives me grief for carrying a murse, especially one with an honest-to-goodness purse organizer in it. It felt slightly funny for about ten minutes. Nobody seems to care and that may be that I have passed the age of worrying about that sort of thing.
