Treks are open to individuals, troops or crews who can choose between a canoe/kayak trek on the Hood Canal, a large arm of the Puget Sound spending times at various locations OR hike in the Olympic Peninsula, an untouched parcel of forest located in Washington State.
LOCATION DESCRIPTION
Camp Parsons is located in the Olympic Forest and Park’s “untouched” wilderness. There are not any roads that venture into the peninsula itself, only trails. Hikers are surrounded by old growth and nature which has remained the same for centuries.
[mappress mapid=”5″]PROGRAM HISTORYHiking in the Olympic Peninsula/Mountains have been a part of the Camp Parsons program since 1919. Many of the trails located near camp were developed by scouts and staff members during those early years and many landmarks bear the names of staff members or were named by scouts who frequently hiked these areas. Although the program has been interrupted from time to time, treks have been a common feature once again since 1982 and have involved climbs of Mt. Olympus. Kayak and canoe treks were a new addition in the 2000’s and cruise around the Hood Canal stopping at various private and state parks. The Hood Canal is a large inlet of the Puget Sound and Pacific Ocean and is subject to tides, winds and a variety of marine life.
