How do Scouts advance? By doing the things that Scouts do.
Scouts go, camping, hiking, exploring, discovering… they build fires, **cook,**and eat… they plan, develop, and present… they instruct, lead, and create… they sing, speak and yell… they run, play and **shout…**they learn, develop, and grow
Scouts are happy when they are doing something. Scouting is a doing – not a telling, listening, or sitting – game.
With all the things for Scouts can do they hardly need reminding of what we’d rather they didn’t. How much of a Scout’s experience in your troop is possibility and how much is restriction? Sure there’s a line around the field of play but, honestly, do we have to worry all that much about things going out-of-bounds? Scouting is a big field with lots of room.
Scouting is a verb that Scouts do… our role is to open the door and stand back, to allow and encourage Scouts to do for themselves, to let them get at it.
