I have had plenty of Scouts seize the opportunity to be cold, wet, and miserable…

… but that usually only happens once or twice, then they learn not to be cold and miserable. When it’s raining they have the opportunity to take your word for it and be prepared, or to learn by experience.

I do tell parents that I want every Scout to have rain gear and polypro every time we go out – regardless of the season, and I explain that it’s about the Scouts safety and comfort as well as the good of their patrol, because it’s a bummer if you can’t do something because one guy isn’t prepared.

Some parents never get it, some Scouts never get it, and I stopped worrying about that a long time ago.

In this podcast I answer emails about parents who object to teh BSA’s policy on orientation, how we do parent’s meetings, and how to save a Venture Crew.
