This slide is based on an idea found in “Whittlin’ Jim’s” column in the December 1950 issue of Boy’s Life. Check out my carrick bend infographic (part if the PDF package) This neckerchief slide can be made from just about any straight-grained wood, the piece I use in the video is probably the smallest workable size. Take care drilling the holes, too much pressure and you’ll split the wood.

The decorative royal carrick bend can be fashioned into a great neckerchief slide. Begin by laying out the royal carrick bend flat and then tighten the strands around a cylinder (paper tube, etc.) This is a challenging project, but it’s worth the trouble. A belated happy World Scarf Day! Scout neckerchiefs are the only unique element of the Scout uniform, I don’t know of any other uniformed group that wears neckerchiefs other than Scouts. I came across PatchDisplay.com on Facebook. It is “owned and operated in historic Chester County , Pennsylvania by individuals involved as both parents and leaders with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for over fifteen years.” They construct custom displays (you provide the patches, etc) to commemorate a Scout’s accomplishments. They advertise the display above for $300.00 which seems very reasonable when one considers the cost of a decent quality frame and the amount of work that goes into assembling something like this....
