Nineteen year-old Kazik, prisoner 918, in Auschwitz. In Podcast 270 I tell the story of Kazimierz Piechowski, or Kazik, who grew up as a Boy Scout in Tczew on the border of Poland and Germany. When the Nazis invaded in 1939 Kazik learned the true meaning of the Scout motto. Trophic Cascades and the Scout Law

One of my favorite writers and noted American naturalist Aldo Leopold is, perhaps, the first to describe what is now known as a “trophic cascade”. Leopold observed over-grazed mountain slopes and connected this with the extermination of wolves. Summer Camp Letters- Day One

DAY ONE This is the forst of several summer camp letters from Chester County Council’s Camp Horseshoe. Horseshoe offers one of the last seven day traditional Boy Scout summer resident camp programs in the country. Scouts Australia Patrol System Video

Working the patrol system is a challenge no matter where you are. I think that the scenes with Scouts huddled together in a dim room and feeling hopeless speak volumes!
